Manager, Tooling and Equipment
This role is responsible for fulfilling the tooling needs of each Maintenance location, managing the Tooling department team, establishing and maintaining standards that will ensure that all Spirit Airlines calibrated tooling and noncalibrated tooling is stored under conditions which protect the tools from the inclement environmental elements during normal storage. The position reports to Sr Manager, Material Operations and Tooling.
- Manages tooling team members, delegates tasks.
- Coordinates and oversees Tool Room audits to meet FAA, NIST, and Company requirements.
- Projects and forecasts tolling needs of the Maintenance program and budgets accordingly.
- Plans and manages operating budget of approved submittals through finance and CARE/CAF process.
- Establishes an acquisition plan and yearly budget for Tooling and Equipment.
- Ensures safety excellence and reliability that supports the overall operational needs of the stations, in order to reduce out of service time, lower costs and reduce damaged/missing tooling reports.
- Advance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department through cutting edge technology and consistent service metrics through monthly calibration and budget variance reports.
- Achieve superior financial performance by modernizing and refining processes and technology that produce industry leading results.
- Provide outstanding leadership during complex projects ensuring timelines and budget goals are met resulting in a high-quality product.
- Make day to day operational and financial decisions impacting multi-million-dollar Tooling budgets.
- Collaborate for negotiations of business partner contract and capital projects to purchase new or replace old equipment.
- Performs evaluation of new and used equipment to ensure the purchased equipment function properly and meet all safety requirements.
- Responsible for selection of Tooling business partners to meet established reliability and safety targets.
- Recommend and execute changes (business partners, policies, procedures, and manuals) for improved departmental quality.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergency change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years' experience
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and required airport and/or Customs identification, seals, and authorizations.
- Forklift driving experience preferred.
- 1-2 years in a warehouse environment with Management experience, Aviation related a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication: able to read, send and execute instructions via email and memos.
- Proficient with computers: basic knowledge of word editing software, inventory sheets and email management.
- Warehouse Operations Knowledge: experience with shipping, receiving and stocking; strong knowledge of GSE Maintenance programs and tooling.
- Able to stand during extended period of time.
- Financial: budget planning experience; experience developing and managing department budgets, both capital and expense.
- Management: takes a leading role in managing complex projects while still managing day to day productivity of department.
- Multi-tasking: manage several assignments at the same time and deliver positive results.
- Detail Oriented: produce accurate work to avoid unnecessary reproduction.
- Problem Solving: use logic, data, and accurate analysis to solve difficult problems and provide efficient, cost-effective solutions. Eliminate roadblocks and establish contingency plans.
- Leading Diverse Workgroups: establish and maintain effective relationships with business partners and internal customers. Know how to accomplish tasks through formal channels and informal networks.
- Managing Processes: dedicated to providing the highest quality results at the lowest total cost. Design effective processes, procedures and practices that eliminate complexity and streamline execution.
- Domestic & International travel approximately 25% of time.
