Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Technician will ensure the proper specifications are met and documented on all incoming ingredients, packaging materials and outgoing finished products and communicate all findings to the necessary departments.
This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities related to food safety & quality are followed and complied with uniformly to reduce product and process variability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Attend and actively participates in safety meetings and trainings
- Always ensure regulatory compliance
- Perform periodic in process quality checks: physical and chemical lab testing, coding, weight, packaging integrity, labeling, temperature, sensory, document review, data entry, among others, to verify compliance with customer and MFI’s specifications and all other associated regulations for all products
- Inspect and sample incoming ingredients to submit for internal lab testing as required
- Assist in drafting, revision, and maintenance of plant standard operating procedures
- Participate in plant food safety/quality inspections, in-process inspections, mock recall, label audits, and HACCP audits.
- Verify proper set-up of production lines at start-up and shift change: Printer set-up (coding), packaging materials, labeling, quality limits, etc
- Review sanitary condition of production lines prior to start-up by verifying fillers sterilization limits, performing ATP (adenosine triphosphate / verify surface cleanliness) and environmental swab, and follow up sanitation procedures after downtime requiring maintenance activity
- Communicate quality issues across departments and assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions where appropriate.
- Perform investigative environmental swabbing of critical production equipment/areas as a troubleshooting guide.
- Assist in investigations in response to customer concerns or other quality-related deviations to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions
- Assist in the management of quality hold activities, including non-conforming product inventories
- Ensure lab equipment, refrigerators, and thermometer, among others, are properly maintained and calibrated
- Maintain and follow MFI micro sample and shelf-life study programs
- Able to perform tasks including job rotation at all NJ locations
- Act as a liaison all departments
- Perform sample delivery to Micro Lab and to others NJ MFI plants
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies/procedures and incorporates safety and health in all job duties/tasks
- Adhere to safe work practices, follows GMPs and HACCP guidelines, maintains sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect employee safety or food safety/quality to management immediately
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Workers are required to wear proper PPE such as hair nets, ear plugs, and certain areas require earmuffs
- Occasional bending, sitting, standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching over shoulders
- Frequent periods of sitting, standing, walking and repetitive hand movement
- Exposure to changes in temperature and humidity
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs
- Manufacturing plant is a large, open floor. Some areas have loud machineries, and some areas are wet.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- One-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking and problem-solving
- Must be able to work independently and in teams
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Basic proficiency using computer programs (MS Office) for collecting and analyzing data and writing procedures and reports
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.

- Pallet jack permit preferred, but not required
- Fluency in a language other than English.
