The Sr. Category Manager, OPH Drugs will strategically align with the Ophthalmology (OPH) business unit and will manage all sourcing activities and supplier management related to OPH drugs and other assigned categories as needed in support of our large network of ophthalmology practices. Identify quality and service improvement and cost reduction opportunities; continuously improve procure-to-pay process; and facilitate supplier selection supported with data analytics. Own the strategic supplier relationships and provide complete day-to-day contract management for this critical area of our business with an annual spend exceeding $300M.
Reports to the Sr. Director, Procurement and is based in our Ballwin, MO corporate headquarters. This is a fast-paced environment in a patient focused organization that continues to experience rapid growth.
Primary Functions
• Work collaboratively and proactively with Key Stakeholders to create, implement, lead, and maintain a robust category strategy utilizing all applicable Procurement levers.
• Lead and manage the supplier qualification, RFP events, supplier selection, contract development, implementation, and ongoing supply base management process.
• Build and publish data models to track supplier performance, our drug purchase volumes, and inventory to ensure that the company maximizes the value of all rebate and discount programs.
• Ensure outstanding internal customer service to help build a best-in-class service organization that is recognized as a trusted partner across the enterprise.
• Implement and manage OPH drug inventory tracking tool and monitor for transaction accuracy and integration with SAP.
• Collaboratively work with Director, Retina Strategy and Operations to align category strategy and tactical support to Operational strategy and tactical requirements.
• Develop a deep understanding of the assigned categories and the supplier marketplace.
• Conduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk, review future strategies, and identify potential cost containment and improvement opportunities.
• Provide external industry benchmarking as well as cost and scenario analysis reporting to better assess strategy and solutions within assigned categories.
• Implement best practices for sourcing and supplier relationship management.
• Engage with 3rd party consultants as needed to supplement internal resources and accelerate cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
• Continuously challenge current state processes with data driven business cases and help build a continuous improvement culture.
• Lead category integration strategy development and deployment for all new OPH practices.
• Lead supplier contract management process for all suppliers in assigned categories.
• Train and mentor other Procurement team members and stakeholders in corporate sourcing policy and procedures.
• Develop and publish metrics in support of savings and continuous improvement objectives.
Skills, Qualifications and Education
• 7+ years of Procurement experience in category management and leading strategic sourcing activities
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, finance, or supply chain management
• Master’s degree and professional supply chain certifications (CPSM, CSCP, etc.) preferred
• Extensive experience in ERP and procurement systems (SAP, JDE, Coupa, etc.)
• Experience in Ophthalmology, Healthcare, and/or Pharmaceutical industries preferred
• The ability to deeply understand and utilize most procurement processes, tools, and systems.
• Proven track record of implementing change & increasing Procurement organizational influence.
• Strong negotiation and project management skills.
• Solid judgement with ability to make decisions backed by data and sound business cases.
